Moral questions

The questions people search when they ask what the Bible and the churches say about life, marriage, hell, slavery, and creation.

These pages answer the question a person typed. Each one opens with the historic Christian claim, then the Bible passages, then what churches have published in their own words. Where those churches disagree, the page says so and quotes them. It does not add a second verdict after the quotations.

The clusters are Life and death, Sexuality and marriage, Hard Bible passages, and Science and society.

Latter-day Saint and Jehovah’s Witness statements are labelled as those communities’ own teaching. They are not the Trinitarian confession. That confession is the Trinity: the one God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and Jesus is God.

What another religion teaches about these questions belongs on that religion’s shelf, quoted from its own texts. Those pages are linked from a moral-questions article when they exist.

Life and death

When a human life begins, and what may be done to it.

  1. What Does the Bible Say About Abortion?

Historic Christianity treats the child in the womb as a human life that must not be killed. Churches differ on the rare case in which the mother’s life is in danger.

Sexuality and marriage

Marriage, sexual intimacy, and the end of a marriage.

  1. What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?

The historic Christian reading is that sexual intimacy belongs in the marriage of a man and a woman. Churches that confess the Trinity have not all published the same recent statements.

  2. What Does the Bible Say About Divorce?

Jesus treats marriage as a covenant God joins. He names sexual immorality in Matthew 19:9. Churches disagree about desertion, abuse, and remarriage.

Hard Bible passages

Passages people cite when they say they cannot become Christians.

  1. Does the Bible Support Slavery?

The Bible condemns kidnapping a person to sell them, and it says every person is made in God’s image. It also regulates slavery in ancient Israel and the Roman world.

  2. Is Hell Real? What the Bible Says About Hell

Jesus speaks of everlasting punishment and of fire that is not quenched. Some churches, and the Jehovah’s Witnesses, teach a different end for the wicked.

Science and society

Creation, the age of the earth, and what churches have said about science.

  1. Can Christians Believe in Evolution?

Christians confess that God created the heavens and the earth and made humans in his image. They do not agree on the age of the earth or on the means.
