The Jehovah compound names join the divine name, YHWH, to a word or phrase about what God does or is. Five are names the text itself gives. Three are printed as one word in the King James Version: Jehovahjireh ([Genesis 22:14](/bible/genesis/22/14)), Jehovahnissi ([Exodus 17:15](/bible/exodus/17/15)), and Jehovahshalom ([Judges 6:24](/bible/judges/6/24)). Two are translated: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS ([Jeremiah 23:6](/bible/jeremiah/23/6)) and “The LORD is there” ([Ezekiel 48:35](/bible/ezekiel/48/35)). The others are phrases such as “I am the LORD that healeth thee” that later writers turned into names.

## Key Points

- Strong’s gives five compounds numbers of their own: H3070 Jehovah-jireh, H3071 Jehovah-nissi, H3072 Jehovah-tsidkenu, H3073 Jehovah-shalom, and H3074 Jehovah-shammah. [(1)](#ref-1)
- Abraham names the place of the ram “Jehovahjireh” in [Genesis 22:14](/bible/genesis/22/14).
- Moses names an altar “Jehovahnissi,” the LORD my banner, after the battle with Amalek in [Exodus 17:15](/bible/exodus/17/15).
- Gideon names an altar “Jehovahshalom” in [Judges 6:24](/bible/judges/6/24).
- [Jeremiah 23:5–6](/bible/jeremiah/23/5) gives the name THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS to the righteous Branch raised up to David.
- Jehovah-rapha, Jehovah-mekoddishkem, Jehovah-raah, and Jehovah-sabaoth are not printed as names in the King James; they come from the sentences in the table.
